Among recommended places to live in London, Islington would consistently be ranked very highly. Keep in mind that Islington, technically, is a borough as well as a town and covers a varied area. When people talk about Islington though they are generally talking about the area surrounding Angel along Upper Street up to about the Holloway road; East to somewhere short of the Kingsland road and South somewhere short of King's Cross Islington is regarded as somewhat upper class although some of the roughest estates I've ever seen have been in Islington (and I've seen a few). There are lots of trendy, young professionals here although it's expensive enough that there are some very wealthy people in the area. Tony Blair used to live here (although whether that raised or lowered the tone of the area has never been decided.) Islington is quintessential North London living with large, period properties and leafy streets. It has a varied, excellent night-life and is very close to the city as well as the night-time hotspots of Shoreditch and Hoxton. The popular, trendy part of Islington is centred on the very pleasant stretch of upper street that is Angel where there's lots of shopping, restaurants, bars / clubs... There's even an arts-house cinema. It's generally safe in Islington itself but keep it mind that there are some relatively rough areas close by - Islington borders Hackney. The Caledonian road is considered relatively rough as is most of Holloway and the holloway road. Set as favorite Bookmark
