I quite like Kentish Town. It's close enough to Camden that you can enjoy the cafes and nightlife whenever you feel like it but still escape the lunacy of Camden to somewhere that is much quieter and more pleasant residentially.

Camden stands alone as... well, Camden really - a lunatic, drug-fuelled creative outpost amongst the very staid, upper-class areas around Regent's Park. Things are much more down to earth as you head up the Kentish town Rd. to Kentish Town and Archway.

The High st. is pretty unremarkable - a bit grubby with the usual Kebab shops a la concrete but there are some very nice pubs in the area.

The area around the Fortess rd. is particularly nice.
