This is not the same place as Hackney which, though unimaginable, is an improvement on this area. I once read that Hackney Wick is the most deprived area of Europe.

Hackney Wick is largely an industrial wasteland - I would tread carefully if you're thinking of moving here (I mean that literally. You'll need to avoid the broken glass and industrial waste).

The only people that I've ever moved here have been artists who just seem to be naturally drawn to the roughest parts of London somehow. The derelict warehouses and factories make great studios it must be said and if it's a warehouse conversion that you've got your heart set on then this could well be where you find yourself.

Large parts of Hackney Wick are currently closed to the public as billions of pounds is poured into the area in preparation for the Olympics.
