As you cross over from Chelsea there are some very posh and expensive flats next to the Albert Bridge and the lovely Battersea Park but you get some fairly rough estates as you go towards Wandsworth.

Battersea is home to the best building in the world: the sadly delapidated Battersea power station which has been passed like a hot potato from developer to developer (with zero actual development) since the 80's. The Battersea power station is on the cover of one of the best albums in the world (Wish you were here, not, in fact, Animals which was the one that caused the problems when a giant inflatable pig was released into the flight path of the planes landing at Heathrow).

Given Battersea's humble background most of the housing is of the terraced two up / two down variety although there are, as mentioned, posh apartments next to the park and the usual gazillionaire's flats overlooking the Thames. There is a nice little enclave at Battersea Square. Battersea has lots of character I think.

There are decent shops and pubs on Lavender hill and Clapham Junction and you're right next to Clapham Common. There's no tube but there are lots of buses and you're close enough to Central London to probably not care very much.
