Tooting is quite a bit more down at heel and shambolic than most of the surrounding area. It can be a little rough around the edges but more affordable than the surrounding areas as a result.
There is a large South Asian Population here which gives the area a colourful and unique character with all manner of shops, stalls and restaurants along the Tooting High Street. In particular there is very good food. There are good transport links with two tubes Tooting is right next to the lovely Tooting Bec Common and residentially it's very nice in this area. Tooting Bec Common also hosts the Tooting Lido - an outdoor pool that's very popular in the summer.
